Message from the Mayor 5-22-2020
Dear Agoura Hills Community,
I
wanted to update you on the latest City news. First, although the cases
of COVID-19 have grown only slightly in Agoura Hills, Los Angeles
County confirmed cases continues to rise. However, the curve has
officially flattened. Our thoughts are with the individuals and their
families who are victims of the virus and want them to know they are
forever with us.
We are now in Phase 2 of L.A. County’s Roadmap to Recovery (www.covid19.lacounty.gov)
and there is some confusion as to what applies in Agoura Hills. All
retail establishments in Agoura Hills are now open for curbside pick-up
and delivery. Restaurants continue to be open for delivery and pick-up
only. All parks and trails are open (www.trails.lacounty.gov). Beaches are also open for certain types of recreation only with beach parking lots remaining closed.
As
of May 21, 2020, the State has issued a variance to the County of
Ventura allowing the County to continue its Phase 2 reopening at an
accelerated pace. Ventura County was able to meet specific criteria
required for such a variance. Of note, inside malls and shopping
centers, as well as inside and outside dining may start reopening with
restrictions. Los Angeles County does not meet the criteria for a
variance at this time. Many of our businesses in Agoura Hills are
interested in joining Westlake Village to approach Los Angeles County
regarding reopening similar to Ventura County. Our City Council will
discuss this issue at our meeting scheduled for May 27, 2020 starting at
6:00 pm. Your comments are encouraged and welcomed on this issue or any
other items on the agenda and may be provided by sending an email to comments@ci.agoura-hills.ca.us
If
you decide to go to Ventura County this week, we ask that you continue
to practice infection control protocols. Continue with frequent hand
washing, use of hand sanitizer, physically distance yourself and please
wear face coverings. These protocols are in place for your safety and
those around you. It is more important than ever to ensure our essential
workers stay well.
In
news unrelated to COVID-19, our City Manager, Greg Ramirez, has
accepted an offer from the City of Camarillo to become their next City
Manager. Mr. Ramirez has served our city for 22 years and has helped
create the amazing community we live in today. We wish him well. No
decisions have been made about his successor.
Finally,
I would like to thank our City Councilmembers and City staff for all of
the countless hours they have spent addressing the issues caused by
COVID-19 and serving this community.
